Twenty Years at Hull House
by Jane Addams
19107.0 hours
Jane Addams pioneered the Settlement movement in America and founded Hull House, a Chicago institution that housed wealthy and poor residents together to lift up disadvantaged populations. The thirteen-building complex provided shared education, healthcare, childcare, food, and lodging, and immigrants in particular benefited from a stable home as they adapted to a new country. Addams treats this account of Hull House as essentially autobiographical. She later received the Nobel Peace Prize for her settlement work and World War I peace activism.
